Privacy Policy of SimScanner

Scanner is built to keep your documents on your device. This policy explains what that means in practice.

Short version. Scanner does not collect personal data, does not use analytics, and does not send your scans or extracted text to any server. Everything stays on your iPhone or iPad.

1. Who we are

Scanner is developed by dgnapps (“we”, “us”, “our”). If you have questions about this policy, you can reach us at support@dgnapps.space.

2. What data the app handles

The Scanner app only works with data that you create inside the app — photos of your documents and any titles, tags or categories you choose. We group this data by how it is handled.

2.1 Scans and document metadata

  • Images you capture with the camera, filtered or enhanced versions of those images, and any PDFs you export are stored only in the app’s sandboxed storage on your device.
  • Document titles, categories, tags, favourite status, and page order are saved locally in a JSON file inside the app’s container.
  • We never upload these files anywhere and we never see them.

2.2 OCR (text extraction)

  • When you enable OCR, text recognition runs entirely on-device using Apple’s Vision framework.
  • The recognised text is saved alongside the page on your device so the document becomes searchable.
  • No text ever leaves the device for OCR.

2.3 Spotlight indexing

  • The app indexes your documents with CoreSpotlight so you can find them from the iOS home screen search.
  • This index lives on the device and is managed by iOS itself. It is not shared with us.

2.4 Diagnostic data

  • The app does not include any third-party analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDKs.
  • If you have enabled “Share with App Developers” in iOS Settings, Apple may forward anonymous crash logs to us through App Store Connect. You can turn this off in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

3. Device permissions

Scanner asks for the minimum set of permissions needed for each feature. You can revoke any of them at any time in iOS Settings.

Camera

Used to capture paper documents through the built-in iOS document scanner. Frames are processed on-device; nothing is streamed or stored outside the app.

Photo Library (add only)

Requested only when you choose to save a scanned PDF or page to the Photos app. We do not read your existing library.

Photo Library (read)

If you use the “Import from Photos” feature, iOS shows the system photo picker. The app only receives the specific images you pick — not your full library.

4. What we do not do

  • We do not create an account for you. There is no login.
  • We do not collect device identifiers, advertising IDs, location, contacts, or any personal information.
  • We do not use third-party tracking or advertising networks.
  • We do not sell, share, or transfer your data to anyone.

5. iCloud sync

If a future version of Scanner offers optional iCloud sync, it will only be turned on if you explicitly enable it. When enabled, your documents are stored in your own iCloud container under your Apple ID. We do not have access to that container. Turning the feature off stops future uploads; existing iCloud data can be removed from your iCloud storage settings.

6. Data retention and deletion

Because everything lives on your device, you control retention. Deleting a document inside Scanner removes it from local storage. Deleting the app from your device removes all of its scans, metadata, and Spotlight entries.

7. Children’s privacy

Scanner is a general-purpose productivity tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live (EU/UK under GDPR, California under CCPA, Türkiye under KVKK, etc.), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data held about you. Because we do not collect or store any personal data on our servers, there is nothing for us to access, correct, or delete on your behalf. Your scans and metadata are always under your direct control on your device.

9. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top and, where practical, highlight the change in the app’s release notes. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the revised policy.
